Studio186

How the work gets done.

Studio186 is a focused design studio. That's not a limitation, it's the model. A tight-knit team working with AI agents as extended capability, producing the kind of coherent work that committees rarely achieve.

The "186" is shorthand for 186,000 miles per second. Precision and velocity. The operating principle is that the right team, with the right tools, moving with intention, outperforms a larger organization working with distributed responsibility and translation overhead.

Principles

01

Direction over production

The scarcest resource in design is not execution, it's knowing what to make. We spend more time on the question than most, and hold that question through the work. The artifact is evidence of a decision, not the decision itself.

02

One team, full stack

When strategy, systems, interaction, and implementation are held by the same team, you get coherence you can't get from a handoff chain. We work across the full problem, from "what are we building and why" to "how does this interaction actually behave."

03

AI as directed capability

We use AI agents as extended craft capability, not as automation, but as directed execution. This compresses timelines without compressing judgment. The output reflects a point of view; the AI accelerates getting there.

04

Outcomes over deliverables

We scope engagements around what needs to be true at the end, not around a list of artifacts. A case study, a design system, a set of validated decisions, these are outcomes. Screens and specs are byproducts.

05

Small and accountable

We take on a small number of engagements at a time. You get a dedicated team, not a coordinator. There's no account management layer between the work and the people doing it.

What this means for you

You work directly with the team doing the work.

Every engagement is a direct collaboration. No account team buffering communication. You talk directly to the team holding the work.

This means we're selective about what we take on. An engagement only works if we can genuinely focus on it, which means we limit the number of active projects at any time. If the timing is right and the fit is good, you'll have our full attention.
